"When I see or recall something—like a scene, a person, or an object—I feel an energy, an emotion, or a motion. I try in my dances to define and recreate that certain dynamic, texture, and energy I experience. With the dancers and collaborators, I set out to find what will shape the structure of the dance, the quality of the movement, and what will be the shared philosophical approach that supports our common sensibility during the performance. The initial spark of interest becomes an amplified re-experience."

Overhead (2005)

Overhead intensifies physicality. Moving through a collage of rock’n roll songs, the dancers confront speed, throwing themselves around, working through exhaustion to get to an 'unfiltered' performance quality. The relentlessly executed movement and the performers’ proximity to the audience make the emotional experience immediate and exposed.
In its original setting the piece began at dusk with dancers and audience outside on the rooftops of the industrial buildings that surround Wallabout Studio in Brooklyn. With the fading light the action moved into the studio, zooming in from distant bodies to the individual personalities.

While the original setting involved an outside performing area to contrast with the inside section, this effect (necessary for the continuity/context) can be achieved through theatrical lighting. We have created a stage-only version for touring purposes. However, the outside section could be re-created specificly for your venue.

Enamoured (2004)

Enamoured sets out to unveil the layers that construct our identity, revealing our initial persona; it offers a glimpse at what exists under the assumed banality of raw movement and sound. It explores how habits can limit us. Breaking with established habits of movement generation and quality and the process of making the unfamiliar one’s own make for an intuitive, aware, and unfiltered choreography and performance.
The music (for violin, two electric guitars, and cello) sets up a timelessness which allows for contemplation of unfolding events without losing focus of the sound world.

Number of dancers: 3 women (including Elke Rindfleisch), 2 men
